Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley

Minister, Health and Social Development

Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley brings a wealth of experience and a diverse professional background to his current role as the Minister for Health and Social Development. Initially establishing himself as an educator, he later transitioned into politics, securing his government position in February 2019. His journey includes significant contributions in various capacities, reflecting a steadfast commitment to community development.

Before embarking on his political career, Honourable Wheatley served as the Sister Islands Coordinator. Additionally, he held a significant tenure as an Assistant Principal and Teacher at the Bregado Flax Educational Centre – Secondary Division.

During a pivotal stint as the Minister of Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration, Honourable Wheatley represented the Virgin Islands at COP26, passionately advocating for environmental sustainability. His leadership under the environmental portfolio was evident in initiatives aimed at vigilantly monitoring and safeguarding natural resources, both above and below sea level.

As the Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Wheatley served as the Chair for the OECS Council of Health Ministers. His focus extended across both local and regional landscapes, with key priorities encompassing enhanced access to primary care, the promotion of preventative healthcare, and improving the well-being of vulnerable populations.

Notably, he also represented the Territory at COP28 which now has an increased global emphasis on health. His multifaceted career, spanning education, environmental sustainability, and natural resources, uniquely positioned him as a global advocate. His presence on the international stage reiterated his dedication to shaping policies and initiatives for a healthier and more sustainable future.

Honourable Wheatley is married with three daughters and enjoys reading, hiking, music and traveling.
