Honourable Jahnel Nisbett
Minister, Nevis Island Administration
The Honourable Jahnel Nisbett is a citizen of the Federation of St. Christopher and Nevis, with residence on the island of Nevis. She holds a first-class honours Bachelors of the Arts degree in History with an Anthropology minor from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine.
A product of humble beginnings, her experiences fuelled the flames of volunteerism and activism for positive social change. Over the years, she has been an avid member of NGO’s such as Red Cross, Leos/Lions, HOPE Nevis et al. In recent years, she has partnered to launch organisations such as “NYCE” (Nevis Youth Careers Expo), and “Dutty Up Yuh Fingah” (a voter education and social responsibility advocacy group). As testament to her commitment and success as a youth leader, Ms. Nisbett was awarded with the prestigious Nevis Island Administration – Youth Impact 12 Award in 2020.
In 2022, Ms. Nisbett was called upon to serve as a nominated parliamentarian in the Nevis Island Assembly and as the Minister of Health, Gender Affairs and Social Empowerment in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA). This umbrella Ministry bears responsibility for the public health sector, environmental health, solid waste management, sustainable development, community development and social services on the island of Nevis. At the age of 34, Hon. Nisbett is the youngest current serving Minister in the Nevis Island Administration.
Prior to her current post, her background in History and Anthropology led her to hold the position as the youngest Executive Director for the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society, an organization charged locally with historical, cultural and environmental preservation. She also previously served as a ‘Trained Graduate Teacher’ of History, Social Studies, English and Literature at the secondary level; a career which she remains passionate.
Nisbett hopes to leave a legacy characterized by her unwavering dedication to public service and her relentless pursuit of a better future for the people of St. Kitts and Nevis. She is committed to visionary leadership, marked by integrity and passion that inspire many generations to come.
